Cessna 172RG, 177RG & 182RG Tug

Minimax’s Cessna 172RG, 177RG and 182RG tugs are portable Cessna aircraft tugs made specifically for moving those plane models in or around your hangar. These Cessna plane tugs use the power provided by a 60V Dewalt drill – the most powerful cordless hand drill on the market. A torque output of 1150 inch pounds and an oil bath worm gear drive for efficient power transfer allow this Cessna tug to move your plane safely (built-in brake) and almost effortlessly. Once you've used your electric Cessna tug you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

While everything needed to put this tug to work comes included in the package, a number of optional items may be added for increased versatility. These include a spare Dewalt 60 volt battery, a 300-watt voltage invertor for converting 220-volt power to 110-volt power (for our European and Asian customers) and a Speedy Mover that allows a manual means of moving your tug without electric power.

I bought a Minimax Aircraft Tug at Oshkosh 2024, after viewing the Minimax Tug and a couple other competitors there.

My tug was delivered about a week before it was promised to be shipped.

Putting the tug together was pretty straight forward.  I did have a little challenge getting something to seat correctly and I called the company for assistance.  The help was perfect, and after I went back and corrected my mistake, the tug was worked perfectly,

The company follow-up has been very good and I don't have a single complaint.

I strongly recommend that you buy this tug for your towing needs, you won't regret your decision.

Works great and is just perfect for our Cardinal. Tight tolerances on both wingtips, so need the ease of use.

5 of 5 Great tug for the TR182 September 17, 2021

This was my second Minimax tug order.  My first one was for an RV-10.  It’s a great tug - for both airplanes.  The functionality and the design and manufacturing quality are all excellent.  One minor disappointment is that the axle rusted pretty quickly.  All the other components are either powder coated or painted.

4 of 5 Good, reasonably priced but takes getting used to April 13, 2021
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Worthington, OH United States
I purchased the tug for my Cardinal RG. The experience was great. The owner was very responsive in answering his phone and answering my questions and it arrived when promised.  Assembly was pretty easy.
It took some tweaks to get it to work.  It takes a bit of muscle to hook up to the nosewheel, and I had to play with the tightness of the bolts holding the arms to hit the spot where I can move the arms to engage the wheel, but they were tight enough not to fall back out.
Using it had a learning curve.  If you started at high power, you just spun the wheels.  If I started at low power and then sped the drill up as the plane started to roll, it worked well.  I have a lip between the driveway and my hangar floor, and I have to be sure to get a "running start" to make it over the lip. Applying friction tape to the epoxy enamel paint on the floor in front of the nosewheel prevented wheelspin.
On the whole it was a good value for the money and works well once you understand how to use it.

5 of 5 Solid first impressions August 4, 2020
Reviewer: Anonymous Person
The ordering process went well. The mounting hardware bag was missing from the shipment and with one quick call was quickly shipped separately. Assembly took 30 minutes.  My impression from the marketing materials was that power for the slight incline into the hangar would be marginal but there is more than ample power to jockey and return the plane to the hangar with ease.  I did not initially order the easy mover and ordered it subsequently. I recommend it as nearly essential, not so much for moving the tow but certainly for easier attachment of the tow to the plane. My first impression on the pieces and parts is they are heavy duty and durable and all components are high quality. I am pleased with the choice and the purchasing process. There is a learning curve to attachment and steering but I expect that to be mastered fairly quickly.
